Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision

4 "Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be q the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, 1 but r your name shall be Abraham, 2 s for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

    He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well.
