Then Abner called to Joab, "Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that the end will be bitter? How long will it be before you tell your people to turn from the pursuit of their brothers?"
And there is also with you Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse on the day when I went to Mahanaim. But when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord, saying, 'I will not put you to death with the sword.'
So in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in open places, I stationed the people by their clans, with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
In famine he will redeem you from death,and in war from the power of the sword.
For the arrows of the Almighty are in me;my spirit drinks their poison;the terrors of God are arrayed against me.
Therefore deliver up their children to famine;give them over to the power of the sword;let their wives become childless and widowed.May their men meet death by pestilence,their youths be struck down by the sword in battle.
