Who or what does the Lion of Judah prevail over/overcome in this passage?
My bible footnote connects the above passage with Rev. 17:14, the Lamb overcoming the kings who receive power for one hour with the beast, and with Rev 3:21, Christ Jesus saying that He also overcame in the message to the church.

KJV - 5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

Very good question, Vanessa! -- Who or what does the Lion of Judah prevail over/overcome in this passage? (Revelation 5:5). See Revelation 3:21 – "The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.” Jesus is speaking of His victory—He has already conquered. This refers to His triumph over sin, death, and Satan through His death and resurrection. For support see my favorite verses in Hebrews 2:14-15 The Message Bible. "Since the children are made of flesh and blood, it’s logical that the Savior took on flesh and blood in order to rescue them by his death. By embracing death, taking it into himself, he destroyed the Devil’s hold on death and freed all who cower through life, scared to death of death." I often use these verses as part of my personal Christian testimony. So from Hebrews 2:14-15 we learn that Christ conquered sin and death. Now from Colossians 2:15 we learn that Christ conquered Satan and his demons: Colossians 2:15 says He "disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him." Incidentally, the whole book of Colossians is worth memorizing and reciting--I did it once for a chapel service at Arizona Bible College. Based on your footnote referring to Revelation 17:14, Vanessa, MEV "These will wage war with the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings. Those who are with Him are called and chosen and faithful.” This shows that at least the military forces of the world will be conquered by Christ. This is brought out here in the Modern English Version (MEV), copyrighted by the Military Bible Association.
