Is it true that if my daughter has God, she doesn't need my love?

This is what she's told me. Is this right?

I empathize with you in this sad moment. For a child to say such unloving words to her mother is truly painful.

This "me and Jesus" mentality is really troubling. As if once a person found God, all the rest is unimportant. Quite the contrary! The truth is once a person found God, he will then understand the importance of God's creation, that everything is a gift from God - including parental love.

May you have peace.

Soooo, obviously you two aren't getting along right now. That's ok, it happens.

When the pharisees asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was, He not only answered them, but He told them the second as well. Jesus answered - Love God, Love Others.

We were created as relational beings. It has been rightly said that Christianity is a relationship, not a religion.

All of us have a desire and a need to love and be loved. Now, only Christ can truly satisfy that desire, only Christ will never let us down, and only Christ will endure patiently during times in which we let Him down. No other person can do that selflessly like Christ.

So Christ should always be our first love. However, that doesn't make Him our only love.

Your daughter needs your love, regardless of what she may say to you. You have been blessed by God (though it may not always feel like it) to be her parent. You need to do your best to love her and to raise her up in Christ, recognizing that she is still a child and doesn't know everything.

She would do well to read I Corinthians 13 and ask herself if she was speaking to you in love.
