It is my opinion, based on what I believe to be true in both what I read in the Bible and have experienced as a nurse, that one of the greatest gifts to others is in the decision to donate life giving organs. The sacrifice by the surviving family members is profound but not without it's rewards. We are never more like Christ than when we are giving sacrificially. Proverbs 3:27 Withold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. How many times do we read about Jesus having compassion on a person or group who is afflicted? Matthew 9:36, 14:14, 18:27, 20:34, Mark 8:2, Luke 7:13, Luke 10:33 Oh, that we Christians would be seen as compassionate and caring people filled with the love of Christ.

If Jesus could sacrifice His life and body for me, how can I do less? Jesus said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 NKJV My son had been sick since he was 11 months old with cancer, congestive heart failure, kidney disease and failure, multiple surgeries, illnesses, etc, etc. He was on dialysis, which though life saving is difficult, and has significant side effects in itself. He required a kidney transplant and mine was a nearly perfect match, but from all the years of stress and work from caring for him, and his Dad leaving our family, my doctor would not allow it. She said it would kill me physically, my body was too weak from the strain of 17 years of caring for him and my family. Years later, after the other donated organ he received failed, I was allowed to give him mine. (They do get rejected, even with the best of care). That was 10 years ago. Though he still has some health issues, and has to diligently take multiple medications daily, he is doing well. He is now married and I have a beautiful, healthy Granddaughter. Praise God for His Goodness and Provision! It is a miracle God has provided through modern medicine and should not be rejected for the "gross" mental images people attribute to it. I remain an organ donor and have looked into other forms of donating. Such as blood, and bone marrow, etc. However, my age and the years of stress have taken its toll on my body, and does not allow me to gift others until I die. In the meantime, my remaining kidney functions well and my tests show my one kidney function is great. More lives would be saved, and others improved significantly if more people understood the truth about organ donation, even living donations. The problem remains that most people think grissley thoughts and techniques of the process and are turned off. Though in reality that isn't the truth, I can respect that. However, after you're dead and your soul returns to the Lord, what need have you of that "lump of clay" you care for daily and take such pride in? If you haven't seriously thought about being at least a cadaver donor, please do. We are all forgiven and saved because Jesus was the ultimate unselfish and giving "organ donor" He gave His everything so we could have Eternal Life... so take some time and think and pray about what is holding you back from marking your Driving Licence and instructing your family that you choose to give a better life to someone else... giving a part of "that lump of clay" upon your death. It all sounds so macabre. I personally can't conceive the writers of 1 John 4:11, Matthew 25:35-46; 25:40, Luke 10:25:37 intended the meaning to include organ harvesting. I find it extremely doubtful they saw organ harvesting coming to pass from what they wrote under inspiration. Mankind has always purposed in their heart to usurp God's authority by experimenting with God's creation. And when mankind does this, all sorts of evil plots and schemes flow from what "we deemed" good such as births for women who are unable to conceive naturally; result is selective gender abortion, etc, etc. Euthanasia to those who suffer painfully? Under the cloak of compassion lies the true evil: to some, alleviate the burdens on family members and society. God said we are wonderfully and fearfully made. We are unique, every fiber and organ. It's mankind who adjusts His "unique" creature. Evil has come out of organ transplanting. Albeit an awful lot of lives have been saved, and I'm sure some have come to the saving knowledge. If something sounds ethical and good comes out of it, yet has the most minuscule of fractions of evil (like leaven) it can't be good on the whole.
