In the passage from Luke cited in the question, Jesus made clear that the verse that He quoted (Psalm 110:1) was referring to the relationship between God the Father and God the Son, rather than between God and David, and that David referred to both the Father and the Son as being his Lord. 

Yes, Christians are to love their enemies. But they are also to love and submit to God. The enemies of Christians are ultimately the enemies of both God the Father and God the Son.

As noted in Deuteronomy 32:35 (and as reiterated by Paul in Romans 12:19), Christians are not to take personal vengeance against their enemies. However, as also noted by those same verses, it will be the righteous will and judgment of God Himself -- not just of Christians -- that (again, as noted by Psalm 110:1) will make those enemies ultimately (but perhaps not until the close of this present age) the stool for the feet of Christ.

Those who will be subject to God's wrath and judgment in eternity will be in that position because of having rejected throughout their lives (all the way up to the moment of their last earthly breaths) the mercy and salvation that He offered them in Christ.

For professed Christians (as followers of Christ) to be unable to tolerate God's judgment of their earthly enemies in eternity (even though, during their earthly lives, those Christians -- in obedience to Christ's command in Matthew 5:44 -- might have loved their enemies and tried to save them) would amount to a claim on the Christians' part of being more righteous or merciful than God.
