I'm not sure that it would be necessary for any special significance from a spiritual or religious standpoint to be attached to such a dream. From just a general psychological perspective, dreaming about someone who has died could be a way for the dreamer to process grief or come to terms with the person's absence. (For example, a dream of this kind might symbolize the person’s enduring influence on the dreamer's life, potential unresolved issues the dreamer may have had with them, or the dreamer's ongoing feelings of loss and longing for the person.)
