What does the Bible say about back-sliding in our walk with Christ?

How do we overcome struggling with and falling back into sin vs. moving forward and growing?

Hebrews 12:1 - 12

ESV - 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. 2 Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Your question is one that we all ponder sometimes as we deal with the flesh part of our being and existence. I am dealing with this now in my own life. In the scripture you referenced, the answer is there, "Looking to Jesus...." 2 Corinthians 12:9-11 says that the grace and power of Jesus Christ is well enough to sustain and strengthen us in our weakness, as He did for Paul. Anytime we need help, "look to Jesus" which means talk to Him, be honest with Him about your struggle, ask Him to help you resist the temptation as He taught the disciples and us to pray in the prayer that we Christians refer to as "The Lord's Prayer" Matthew 6. The key is to study the bible and pray daily to draw close and closer to Jesus in order to love Him SO much that you don't want to disappoint Him, even in your times of temptation. Draw close and closer to Him everyday in order to love Him SO much that your greatest desire to love Him drowns out your great desire to fulfill your flesh. Jesus knows your struggle! He was tempted with every emotion and feeling that we feel, so He is ready and well able to give you the strength that you need to tackle the struggle when it tries to tackle you. Jesus taught the disciples and us to pray ahead of time in order to be prepared when the trial comes. Talk to God everyday and thank Him for the blessing of strength over your struggle. Do daily affirmations--yes, talk to yourself with scripture everyday. Get the Word on your heart and in your mind so that you can pull it up when you feel the struggle coming on. Ask God to bless you with an accountability partner who you can call and talk to when you're feeling weak and wanting to yield to the temptation. We all need accountability partners because we all deal with the sin nature of our existence. You can do this! You have to be sold out for Jesus in order to sell out this struggle. When you sell out this struggle to Jesus, you exchange it for strength, joy and peace of mind. And you will feel empowered that with Christ you can do all things great because He has given you the strength to do so! Be Blessed Strong One! I answered this question with the assumption that you are a Christian. If you are not, then today is your day of salvation. Ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and life and be your Lord and Savior, Romans 10:9-10. Find a holy bible believing, teaching church and get involved in bible study or a small group study. Get connected to strong-faith people who will encourage and inspire you to spiritual growth and greatness.
