To be included in the Catholic Canon of Scriptures, three conditions must be met: 1. It must be written by one of the apostles, or a close disciple of an an apostle. 2. It must be inline with Orthodox teaching. 3. It must be accepted and read in the majority of churches. The Gospel of Thomas was excluded from the Catholic Canon because it didn't meet the above criteria. It was not written by Thomas, not orthodox, and not accepted in the churches at that time. This gospel was written by Gnostics, a group who teaches on secret knowledge, declared heretics by the Church (2 Peter 1:20). It follows that their writings are also heretical.
