In what name or names are we to be baptized in?

We are to be baptized in Jesus Name. It is the Name above all names and everyone must be baptized in that Name. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12 KJV). Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call (Acts 2:38 - 2:39 KJV)" You must also be immersed in much water. "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. (Acts 8:36 - 8:39 KJV)

If you choose to be immersed in water before receiving Jesus as Savior, you are doing it on your own. If you choose to be immersed in water after receiving Jesus as Savior, your Pastor will immerse you in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In either case, water baptism does not save. It is not a requirement for salvation.

It seems that there is a triune name that expresses the identity of our triune God i.e. Lord Jesus Christ. Lord (translation of JHVH), Jesus (the name the Father gave Him, Christ (= anointed i.e. from power of the Holy Spirit). Mat.28:19 gives the command while the practice in Acts never repeats the command but obeys it so they were baptized in the name of "the Lord Jesus" or "Jesus Christ". Many ancient manuscripts have both eg compare Acts 10:48 in KJV with NIV and we see complete triune name. This was disused in church history and replaced with giving a "Christian name" to those being baptized. Have we lost something?

I believe Father Son and Holy Spirit are all titles. The verse in Question asks us to baptise in the NAME (singular) NOT names! So the Titles of father son and holy ghost represent the ONE GOD in 3 manifestations. For e.g. Father Son and Holy Ghost being Lord Jesus Christ, in the same way as I could be father son and fireman all these titles would represent me but are all talking about the one person without giving my name. The God of the old testament was Lord Jesus Christ revealed in the New Testament. This revelation only comes to the believer through the Holy Spirit after much reverent prayer. You see God Sealed the Book with 7 seals so that it would be hidden from the wise and prudent and only revealed to his sheep that here his voice. Remember In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with GOD(or in God) and the WORD WAS GOD (and later) and the WORD was made flesh and dwelt among us(Jesus). So One God not triune but in 3 manifestations of himself. God is Holy and is a spirit and also is the WORD (Lord Jesus Christ). I hope this helps.

A name is more than a "name". In Biblical times a person’s name had deep significance and was often an expression of character or destiny. A name meant the persons reputation. "In the name of" actually means "by the authority of," "by the power of, " "on behalf of", etc.

The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles (Didache) is a brief early Christian treatise, dated by most scholars to the late first or early 2nd century. The second part of this document (chapters 7 to 10) begins with an instruction on baptism, which is to be conferred "in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" in "living water" (that is, natural flowing water), if it can be had — if not, in cold or even warm water. The baptized and the baptizer, and, if possible, anyone else attending the ritual should fast for one or two days beforehand. If the water is insufficient for immersion, it may be poured three times on the head.

God Bless you, As per the teachings of the bible and Jesus, one must get baptized in the name of the father, son and the holy spirit, as per the age. Mathew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” As a matter of fact we are in the age of the holy spirit, so definitely we have to get baptized in three names of our lord/savior. As you all know the Father`s name is Jehova, the Son's name is Jesus, you must also know the holy spirit`s name as revealed to john in revelations, so that the process of baptism can be completed as per the age. Rev 2:17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it. Rev 3:11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. The new name is nothing but the name of Jesus, when he comes again or his second coming, now is the time.
