Bezaleel was a Son of Rio, son of But of the tribe of Judah, whom the Lord called by name. The Spirit empowered him to work in metals, wood, and stone for the tabernacle.

Exodus 31:2; 35:30.

Bezaleel means "in the Shadow of God."

First, see the big picture: 2 of God’s Chosen Workmen are found mainly in Exod. 31:1-11; 35:30-35.

(1) Bezaleel means ‘Shadow of God’ (Isa. 49:2): was of the tribe of Judah, praise.
(2) Aholiab means ‘Tent of my father’ (Exod. 31:7): was of the tribe of Dan, judging. They were:

1 Appointed by the Call of God, Exod. 31:2
Those called by name to service:
Bezaleel Exod. 35:30
Israel the nation Isa. 43:1
Cyrus the Persian Isa. 45:1,4

2 Filled with the Spirit of God, Exod. 31:3
Bezaleel was the first man said to be filled with the Spirit

3 Wise in the Work of God, Exod. 31:6

Bezalel is mentioned these 9 times:

1Ch 2:20 "Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri was the father of Bezalel.

Ezr 10:30 "From the descendants of Pahath-Moab: Adna, Kelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh."

Exo 31:2 “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah,"

Exo 35:30 "Moses said to the Israelites, 'See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.'"
NET Ex 35:30
"Moses said to the Israelites, 'See, the Lord has chosen 1 Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
NET  Notes

1 tn Heb “called by name” (so KJV, ASV, NASB, NRSV). This expression means that the person was specifically chosen for some important task (S. R. Driver, Exodus, 342). See the expression with Cyrus in Isa 45:3-4.

Exo 36:2: "Moses summoned Bezalel and Oholiab and every skilled person in whom the Lord had put skill – everyone whose heart stirred him to volunteer to do the work,"

Exo 37:1: "Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood; its length was three feet nine inches, its width two feet three inches, and its height two feet three inches."

Exo 38:22: "Now Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything that the Lord had commanded Moses;"

2 Ch 1:5: "But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, was in front of the Lord’s tabernacle. Solomon and the entire assembly prayed to him there.)"

Exo 36:1: "So Bezalel and Oholiab and every skilled person in whom the Lord has put skill and ability to know how to do all the work for the service of the sanctuary are to do the work according to all that the Lord has commanded.”

Wikipedia says, "In Exodus 31:1-6 and chapters 36 to 39 [Exo 36-39], Bezalel, Bezaleel, or Betzalel (Hebrew: בְּצַלְאֵל‎, Bəṣalʼēl), was the chief artisan of the Tabernacle and was in charge of building the Ark of the Covenant, assisted by Aholiab." An artisan is a worker in a skilled trade, especially one that involves making things by hand.

The Great Overseer, the Holy Spirit, possessed Bezaleel and inspired him to prepare the temporary habitation of God. In our time, the same empowering Spirit gives to “every man his work,” and only that which is accomplished under the guidance of the Spirit can be pleasing to God and fit for a place in His great Temple. -- Herbert Lockyer's All the Men of the Bible found on biblegateway.
