NKJV - 64 "Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead.' So the last deception will be worse than the first."

I would say that the "last error" (or "last deception", as some translations of the Bible -- such as the New King James Version, as noted in the question -- express it) that the Pharisees were referring to, and were trying to guard against, was the possibility of the apostles stealing Jesus' body from the tomb belonging to Joseph of Arimathea where His body had been placed (Matthew 27:57-60), and then falsely claiming that Jesus (whom the Pharisees regarded as an impostor (Matthew 27:63)) had risen from the dead. It was to guard against this possibility that they requested that Pilate place a guard on the tomb (Matthew 27:62-66). (The "first" deception (from their view) to which they referred in Matthew 27:64 was Jesus deceiving the people into believing that He was the promised Messiah as the result of miraculous acts that He performed, which the religious leaders believed to have been accomplished through the power of Satan (Matthew 9:34).)
