Was Simon who used to be a sorcerer truly saved?

I'm asking because he offered the apostles money to lay hands on him so he too could receive the Holy Spirit, and then Peter rebuked him. Do you think he was ever saved, or had he completely missed the point?
Acts 8:13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done. 

Acts 8:13

ESV - ¹³ Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed.
