Matthew 1:23
23“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”Isaiah 7:14–which means, “God with us.”
Here we see the name of Jesus as Immanuel, meaning "God with us". Go to the very last verse in Matthew (28:20) and Jesus says to the disciples, "I am with you always". What great bookends to this Gospel. I bet if we carefully read Matthew's Gospel, we'd see a bunch of nuances to Jesus being with us. It may just be the theme of his entire message.

Matthew 28:20
20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Cross reference this verse with Matthew 1:23. Note that Matthew chooses to start his Gospel with the name for Jesus,"Immanuel" which means "God with us", and he ends here in this very last verse with Jesus saying, "I am with you always". What a great bookend to Matthews mesage. Maybe we ought to carefully read Matthew with this in mind and see how many times Jesus alludes to this fact throughout.

Philippians 1:10
10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,
When we think of "sincere" we usually mean that someone had good intentions irrelavant of the outcome. Example: "While Jim was wrong at work, we believe he's a sincere man and has our company's best interests." The Bible doesn't look at this word the same way we do. Biblical sincerty is about being pure and without blemish. The Greek word best describes this as a sun or bright lamp looking at a piece of cloth to see imperections. To be sincere isn't merely to have good intentions; rather, it's to have a cleanness of heart at all times.

Philippians 1:3
Thanksgiving and Prayer
3I thank my God every time I remember you.
I can't help but think that Paul is referring to Acts 16:15, where Paul converts Lydia. Lydia becomes the very first convert in Philippi and she started a spitirual revolution there. I bet when Paul says that he thaks God for EVERY REMEMEBRANCE, he always first thinks about that day when Lydia said "Yes" to God.

John 19:30
30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
The Greek word for "It is finished" is tetelestai. This word is in the perfect tense, something unheard of in the English lanuage. It conveys a simple past tense, but the results of that past action continuing forever. When Jesus says, "It is finished", He's really saying that the work He did on the cross has been completed (simple past tense), but the RESULTS of that completed action (i.e., His death) will continue forever! Isn't it nice to know that Jesus' work on the cross isn't over. The result of His death and subsequent resurrection have continuous and ever-lasting action that continues forever into eternity. Pretty cool.
