Honor thy father and mother (Exodus 20:12): Paul begins by admonishing the Ephesians to honor their fathers and mothers. Here he speaks to the primary unit of community on earth, the family. Obedience to Christ begins with obedience to one's earthly parents. How can one be obedient to God, who we do not see, if we can't be obedient to our parents, who are right in front of us (Hebrews 11:6)
