Salt and Light 13“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.14“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

As in James, we are commanded to good works, even though they are not what saves our souls. Through our good works, we may be able to point other souls in the direction of Christ. Christ in us should make our actions Christ-like. Denying those actions is denying Christ.

As a christian you are empowered to be an example to others. Do not judge anyone. Not 1 in this world without sin, not one. Walk with God daily, talk to Him, write His words on your heart, and glorify Him always. This way you will set an example for those around you who might be lost.

Our works are a natural consequence of our new identity. We are light, we cannot help but shine. Our task is not to get in the way eg putting under a basket, letting our 'glass' get smudged etc. Let our peace and joy in the lord exude in everything we do, say and think and others will marvel at the difference and praise the source of our light, our great God!
Ref James 2:14-26 Our faith and deeds are two sides of the same coin. Our faith is naturally evidenced in our deeds, else, our faith is still-born.

This one speaks to me the most since I try very hard to let my works show that I work for God now. He gave me lots of help, most importantly Jesus' eternal Equivalent Exchange for sin, and now I'll return the favor no matter how small it may seem.

Let your light shine before men, don't hide it. Don't let anything cover it.

It is our duty as Christians to shine God's light through our actions. People understand actions must more than words, so we need to live lives that reveal who God is so that they can be saved.

We need to be Light for Christ to bear witness to others. People stuck in the dark, must be given the opportunity to see the love of God shining through us, they will question what that light is and we will have the opportunity to give our testimony of how God changed us and we will never be the same again because of Jesus' death and resurrection.
