Madman
Source: Pete Orta
“Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one-I am talking like a madman-with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death.” I read these words of Paul in comparison to my life and wonder if my obedience to the Lord has the intensity it should. I want to make sure I’m responding to everything the Lord wants of me.
If Paul lived in the United States today, I feel confident that his testimony would remain the same. Bold and unapologetic. It would be easy for us to excuse ourselves by blaming his circumstances on the time period he lived in, but his commitment to the Lord would subject him to the same kinds of persecution that he experienced in his day. It’s intimidating that this could be the litmus test that exposes who the real followers of Christ are. Sometimes I question my walk of faith because I’m not experiencing these same levels of persecution. I think as believers we should take inventory of what we are experiencing, and allow it to challenge our comfort levels.
Jesus tells us that we will be dragged into court and that the churches will not support our work. Financially flogging our efforts by withholding resources and recommendations, leaving us exiled from our communities. The authorities will make an example of us to the general public, striking fear in those that are called according to His purpose. But in all this, have no fear! Jesus promised that when they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. So call me a madman, but rejoice when the Lord finds you worthy to be persecuted for the sake of his son.
